It is expressed in a variety of cell types, including erythrocyte, megakaryocyte, blood vessel endothelial cell, hematopoietic stem cell, megakaryocyte-erythroid progenitor cell, goblet cell, cerebral cortex GABAergic interneuron, forebrain radial glial cell, absorptive cell, and intestinal crypt stem cell of colon. ## Key characteristics * GNRH2 is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 130 kDa. * It is a member of the GNRH family of proteins, which are involved in the regulation of reproductive function. * GNRH2 is expressed in high levels in the testes of mammals. * It is a key regulator of sperm production and release. * It also plays a role in the regulation of female fertility. ## Pathways and functions * GNRH2 binds to the G protein-coupled receptor Gpr1b. * This binding activates the G protein, which in turn activates the enzyme adenylate cyclase. * Adenylate cyclase converts ATP into cyclic GMP, which activates protein kinase C. * Protein kinase C phosphorylates a number of downstream targets, including the transcription factor GRH-beta. * GRH-beta is a key regulator of reproductive function. * When GRH-beta is phosphorylated, it translocates to the nucleus and activates the transcription of genes involved in reproductive development and function. ## Clinical significance GNRH2 is a key drug target in the treatment of infertility in humans.
